What do you do when you’re a cash-strapped student looking for a way of earning some extra money? Well, if you’re our No 3 Future Leader, Ademola Adewole, you launch an innovative e-commerce platform for students to buy and sell course notes.

Ademola launched unishortcut.com in March 2016, having started working on it eight months previously. This included finding and employing a theme developer who happened to be based in Denmark and a functionality developer who lived in Pakistan, and liaising with them to get the site up and running. He also had to factor in time to promote the site, with not much of a budget. This largely meant keeping an active presence on social media and promoting the service across campus and through other student networking avenues. All his hard work paid off when unishortcut.com received 1,000 page hits in its first month, and 100 people signed up for the service

The company – which Ademola funded through part-time jobs – has also been endorsed by the Chief Marketing Officer of Linkilaw, an established online marketplace which compares and sources top lawyers (Read more about unishortcut.com on pg. 67)

Ademola is also a strong advocate of giving back. In 2015, he started his own campaign with Books 2 Africa, an international NGO that collects and distributes books and educational materials to students in Africa. Through this he supported the delivery of more than 1,000 books to the federal school of occupational therapy in Lagos, Nigeria. He says leadership is about learning from your failures: “I’ve had knockbacks but it’s about learning and moving forward.”

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Specialising in consumer law and with Unishortcuts as a successful company.
